What we call the Framework is what we use to stay connected, share, discuss, collaborate on common community-driven projects, and to reach out to the planetary science community and the general public.
Our approach is to connect and administrate existing free or low-cost cloud-based solutions, services and open-source tools:
Slack is a real-time collaborative discussion platform, embedding features of a group chat and additional sharing capabilities, including snippets, files.
We use OP Slack for real-time exchange and discussion of scientific or technical nature.

Several Channels exist in order to facilitate discussions and access to information. Below few are described, more can be freely added if needed by any registered member:
#general
General discussion of potential interest for all members. It is also a place to introduce yourself and find your way around.#planetary-mapping
For planetary geoscientists and cartographers to discuss and share tools, techniques and resources, including GIS.#tools
Discussion on software tools for analysis, visualisation and alike.#training-tutorials
Information sharing or building related to training material, existing or newly developed.Slack documentation is a good starting point, e.g. Slack guides.
GitHub a popular service for hosting and managing collaborative (software mainly) projects on the web.
OP individuals use OP GitHub for a variety of purposes, from sharing small scripts or tutorials (e.g. with Gist), to contributing to larger projects, as well as for maintaining this website.

Medium is an online publishing platform that has become popular by its ease-of-use and a hybrid collection of amateur and professional people and publications
We use our OP Blog on Medium to reach out to the planetary science community and the general public.

Topics we address are not limited but include planetary data, tools, workflow, science, community events; for example: availability of planetary data, including information on how the data are found, downloaded, processed, and used for cartography and scientific analysis; trends in data storage and rapid access; analysis and visualization tools using current and new algorithms and methods.
Publish on our Blog! Read CONTRIBUTING.md file.
Previously, our blog was hosted on GitHub. Read previous posts here.
Twitter is an online news and social networking service where users post and interact with messages, "tweets", restricted to 140 characters.
We use Twitter to reach out to the planetary science community and the general public, share OP-related news and announcements.

Tweet mentionning @openplanetary
and it will get to us straight to us in Slack.
Other framework components exist, binding things together and helping us to administrate and operate OpenPlanetary. We are also exploring ideas to leverage existing online communities. Some others are more expiremental at this stage and used for specfic projects:
Anyone can contribute to our effort of building this community. Whether you want to write blog posts, get help or participate to discussions in Slack, or contribute to existing or new projects on GitHub, it all starts in Slack. Fill in this form and we'll send you an invite to join our Slack team and become an OpenPlanetary member.
